SANDF and SAPS foil ATM robbery in Soweto

Johannesburg – As looting attempts continue, the members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and South African Police Services in Gauteng foiled an ATM robbery in Moroka, Soweto today.

In a statement by the SANDF, they said they were conducting patrols between Chiawelao Clinic and Maponya Mall when they were requested to reinforce the South African Police Services.

They received a tip-off regarding an ATM bombing in Moroka.

They were able to intercept the bakkie that loaded the safe from the ATM bombing. The money found in the safe was estimated to be R10 000 000.00.

The occupants of the vehicle, however, fled the scene.

The safe was handed over to Moraka Police Station.
