Scammers hack late Luzuko Koti’s cellphone

Scammers have no respect for the dead. This after the family of Luzuko Koti discovered that his cellphone number was being used to scam unsuspecting people.

Koti, the late Channel Africa business manager, died on Monday after a short illness. The 47-year-old broadcaster was battling cancer.

The family of the former director of communications and marketing at the Nelson Mandela Foundation on Friday warned the public of the scam, cautioning that people should ignore WhatsApp messages from Koti’s cellphone number.

“Please do not entertain this number and most importantly, do not send any money being requested of you. We are doing all in our power to stop these scammers,” said Nontobeko Mabitsela, speaking on behalf of the family.

“This is an unnecessary distraction to the family and friends of Luzuko, who in their moment of grief must also deal with such an insensitive and inhumane conduct.”

Koti also worked as a broadcaster for the Eastern Cape-based Umhlobo Wenene FM.
