An early goal by Kaizer Chiefs striker Ashley du Preez injected a sense of urgency in the Soweto derby. Du Preez’s second goal late in the second half gave Chiefs a 2-1 lead over Orlando Pirates. The game in a sold-out FNB Stadium, Johannesburg, started late by 15 minutes to a rush of late spectators arriving at the venue.
The game finally kicked off at 3.45pm.
After a somewhat lull start, Du Preez pounced in the 6th minute to give Chiefs the lead. Pirates immediately took control of the game as they launched relentless attacks into the Chiefs danger zone.
