Spain’s soccer chief Rubiales suspended amid kissing row

CNN reports that Fifa has provisionally suspended president of the Spanish soccer federation, Luis Rubiales, from “all football-related activities” following his kiss with Women’s World Cup winner Jenni Hermoso.

World soccer’s governing body said Rubiales was initially suspended for 90 days and also said that neither Rubiales nor the Spanish football federation were allowed to contact Hermoso.

Fifa said further information would be provided when disciplinary proceedings had been concluded.

Rubiales was caught on camera showering the entire Spain women’s football team with cheek kisses following their monumental victory against England in the Women’s World Cup final recently.

The embattled Spanish football chief went on to kiss Hermoso on the lips, an action that the player later reported she did not enjoy as it was not consensual.

What was supposed to be a jubilee in the Spanish football nation has since turned into war as Rubiales has reportedly doubled down and is said to be lining up a legal battle to sue the world cup winner.
