Outgoing Safa CEO Tebogo Motlanthe, who tendered his resignation on Friday night, has been linked with a move to join the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
Motlanthe shocked the SA football fraternity when he forwarded his resignation letter to stunned association bosses.
Upon receiving the news, Safa president Danny Jordaan convened an emergency meeting via Zoom with the association’s national executive committee (NEC) members.
Jordaan met with Motlanthe last night after the Soweto derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
The PSL has been without a full-time CEO since Brand de Villiers left the organisation eight years ago. Golden Arrows owner Mato Madlala was appointed acting CEO in 2015 and she has been at the helm since. This has led to a barrage of criticism from the media, observers and some club bosses like Tim Sukazi of TS Galaxy.
So, Motlanthe, who is an advocate by profession, could be handy for the PSL, which runs the professional side of football in the country. Two independent NEC members, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that Motlanthe was heading for the greener pastures at the PSL.
What adds fuel onto the matter is that Motlanthe was at the forefront of Safa’s onslaught onto the PSL two weeks, which led to the league bosses boycotting a Safa congress in Ekurhuleni.
Motlanthe did not respond to our efforts to reach him for comment since Friday.
