Chiefs sign another South American top player

Kaizer Chiefs are still in the market busy beefing up their squad. On Thursday, they announced that they have signed a striker from Colombia, Efmamjjasond Gonzáles Palacios.

With the season already underway, Chiefs are showing serious intent and they are preparing to compete strongly in the 2023/24 season. González, who was plying his trade in the Bolivian Primera Division for Real Santa Cruz, is expected to arrive in South Africa soon to start his career as a Glamour Boy.

The forward, simply known as Jasond González, is the second player from Colombia to sign for Amakhosi. He joins the team a year after his fellow countryman, Leonardo Castro, departed South Africa.

On Wednesday, Amakhosi parted ways with lanky striker Caleb Bimenyimana after one season. Bimenyimana arrived at Amakhosi as a free agent when he signed in August 2022. Before arriving at Chiefs, he was with Kaysar FC in Kazakhstan. His first goals for Chiefs came in a 2-1 come-from-behind home win against SuperSport United. That brace came as part of a run, in which he scored six goals in three league games.

Chiefs will be on the road again this weekend when they travel to the lowveld to face TS Galaxy in Nelspruit on Sunday afternoon in the DStv Premiership.

This will be Amakhosi’s third league match of the new season, after they drew their first match against Chippa United and lost their second match, controversially, to Mamelodi Sundowns last Wednesday.

Amakhosi took a break from league action for the MTN8 quarterfinal match against Cape Town City on Sunday in Cape Town. The Glamour Boys were 2-1 victors in the match played at Athlone Stadium in the Mother City, and advanced to the semi-finals of the Wafa-Wafa competition.

With one point in the bag after two matches in the DStv Premiership, coach Molefi Ntseki and his troops will want to pick up maximum points from Sunday’s match and start solidifying their position on the log.

The hosts, TS Galaxy, are high in confidence after their positive start to the season, picking up a win in their first game against newcomers Cape Town Spurs and drawing their second against Chippa United.
