The Carling Black Label Knockout final is on the horizon and striker Samir Nurkovic has his sights set on lifting his first ever trophy in the South African top-flight football.
Stellenboch FC and TS Galaxy will lock horns at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Kick-off is at 3pm.
Kokota Piano, as Nurkovic is fondly known in local football after his successful stint with Kaizer Chiefs during the 2019/20 season, said dedication will be crucial come match day.
“I have never achieved something like that before [winning a trophy] in South Africa, but I am also not putting myself under pressure that I must win a trophy,” Nurkovic said during a media briefing at Sturrock Park training grounds at Wits University on Wednesday.
“That is because it’s important to stay firmly grounded and to keep on working hard, push ourselves to the maximum and just do what the coach requires from us.
“If winning the competition is meant to be, then it will be. What is important for us is to put in the hard work and everything else will follow.”
Contributing goals and assists
The former Chiefs talisman has been frequently coming off the bench and has had a positive impact on the field.
He said starting from the bench does not bother him, adding that he is only content with contributing goals and assists for his teammates.
He said: “That [being in the starting line-up] is entirely up to the coach.
“The boys are really working hard and playing well upfront. As you know, I have been out for a long time and the coach must manage my game time.
“I am getting there. I am always happy, whether starting the games or coming on in the second-half, there is always one thing in my mind, to score or contribute to the victory of the team.”
