Sundowns spoil Chiefs’ party with late equaliser

Kaizer Chiefs allowed Mamelodi Sundowns a late equaliser which will prove crucial when the two sides meet again in the second leg of the MTN8 semifinals in Pretoria.

Khuliso Mudau’s late goal really broke the hearts of Chiefs supporters who were already celebrating a victory.

The match was played at a packed FNB Stadium where the atmosphere was electrifying.

Chiefs players gave their supporters something to smile about after they took the lead in the 60th minute via an Edson Castillo’s header after he connected to a delicious Asley du Preez cross.

It was against the run of play with the Brazilians dominating throughout.

The least said about the match in a boring first half, the better. The home side were nowhere as Sundowns bossed them for the entire half.

Themba Zwane and Ribeiro Costa had opportunities to take the lead but they fluffed their efforts wide.

Sundowns suffered a major setback when Zwane was pulled off after a suffering a head injury.

Whatever Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki told his players during the halftime break worked like a charm.

Amakhosi came back alive and started asking questions at Sundowns keeper Ronwen Williams who had an easy first half.

For their efforts, Chiefs were rewarded with Castillo’s goal and it also boosted their confidence going forward.

But Sundowns did not give up and pushed forward for the equaliser. Chiefs keeper Brandon Peterson was pulling off impressive saves until Khuliso Mudau equalised with a beautiful header that left Petersen seeing stars.

Sundowns will boosted by the away goal, meaning that Chiefs must win in the second leg in Pretoria.
