Suspects implicated in Thabo Bester escape remanded in jail

In a significant development surrounding the daring escape of convicted serial rapist and murderer Thabo Bester from the Mangaung Correctional Centre in 2022, the case against three recently apprehended individuals has been postponed.

Thabang Matthews Mier, Joel Lekhari Makhetha, and Moeketsi April Ramolula, all former employees of G4S, a private security company contracted to manage the correctional facility, appeared briefly at the Bloemfontein magistrate’s court where their bail application was deferred pending the acquisition of additional information.

The suspects, whose ages range from 37 to 47, were taken into custody on Monday evening in connection with their alleged involvement in aiding Bester’s audacious escape from the high-security prison.

Following their arrest, a total of 12 individuals have now been implicated in the elaborate scheme that led to Bester’s evasion of justice.

During the court proceedings, magistrate Motlholo Khabisi declared: “All three of you will remain in custody until July 3 2023 for information and bail application.”
