Suspended sentence saves Nhlanhla Lux from serving time in jail

Controversial former leader of Operation Dudula Nhlanhla Lux has been hauled over the coals for house breaking, theft and vandalism.

Lux escaped serving time in jail with the skin of his teeth when he was handed a suspended sentence by the magistrate’s court in Roodepoort this week.

He was sentenced to two years imprisonment wholly suspended for three years on condition that he is not convicted of housebreaking during the suspension period.

He also received five years imprisonment suspended for three years on condition that he is not convicted of damage to property during the period of the suspension.

The court added more woes for the self-proclaimed president of Soweto Parliament, that he pays complainant Victor Ramarafe R9 500 on or before August 24 at 1pm for damages to his property.

Linda Duma, Roodepoort control prosecutor, said the court must send a strong message that lawlessness cannot be tolerated.

According to Phindi Mjonondwana, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in Johannesburg, Nhlanhla Lux paid Ramarafe on the spot.

“The NPA confirms that the complainant was compensated and a proof of payment of the amount ordered by the court was presented in open court on 24 August 2023,” she said.

Nhlanhla Lux was arrested in March 2022 following a complaint which was registered with police in Dobsonville, that members of Operation Dudula raided Ramarafe’s house on March 20 2022 in search of drugs.
