A truck driver is in hospital fighting for his life after he was involved in a horrific crash on the M7 east-bound before the N2 national highway.
A report from Emer-G-Med on Monday said the paramedics were summoned to the scene of the crash where a heavy vehicle had left the road and fell off a cliff.
“On arrival on scene, the crew was met with the twisted frame of the vehicle. With the assistance of the eThekwini fire and rescue services, the driver, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, was cut free using the jaws of life,” according to the report.
“Once free, he was placed onto a mechanical ventilator to assist him in breathing and was transported to hospital under the care of an emergency care practitioner for the definitive care that he required.”
