Festive season crime intensifies as the South African Police Services (SAPS) in Bela-Bela, Limpopo, have on Friday opened two cases of murder, attempted murder and armed robbery.
This is after two women were shot dead and another was reported injured durig a shooting by three suspected men, while travelling in a bus from Pretoria to Zimbabwe, in the early hours of Thursday morning.
In statement, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said: “Three suspects apparently boarded a Harare-bound bus at Bosman in Pretoria, pretending to be passengers,” said Mojapelo.
“The bus belonging to Copperbelt Bus Company, reportedly left Pretoria just after 01:00 [Thursday] morning. As it passed Mantsole Weigh Bridge along the N1 road, one of the suspects allegedly produced a firearm and shot through the front of the windscreen, forcing the driver to pull over.
“The other suspects then opened fire to three women, instantly killing two and critically injuring one.”
Mojapelo also said that the other passengers were then robbed of their belongings, including cellphones, cash and passports.
The suspects were then picked up by another vehicle that was allegedly following the bus before the incident occurred and fled the scene.
Mojapelo has since ordered that the three suspects are hunted down and brought to book.
