Ugu district municipality mourns mayor’s untimely death

The community of Ugu district municipality in KwaZulu-Natal and surrounding is in mourning following the death of district mayor Phumlile Mthiyane.

Mthiyane died on Monday, according to municipal spokesperson France Zama.

“It is with deep shock and sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of the mayor of the municipality, Phumlile Mthiyane, who was called to her eternal rest during the early hours of Monday morning,” said Zama.

“The dark cloud seems to have fallen upon our municipality during this period. We therefore request your thoughts and prayers for the family during this painful loss.”

Mthiyane died two days after the death of KwaZulu-Natal south coast municipality’s manager, Dr Elliot Ntombela, who took his last breath in hospital at the weekend.

Zama said the funeral arrangements would be announced once they have been finalised.
