Vhudie bounces after Idols’ shame

Johannesburg – The music industry has welcomed upcoming popstar with open arms after the Idols SA hopeful felt his world crumbling when his journey at the music competition was cut short last year.

His performance of his original composition My Yoki Yoki on Idols SA Season 16, earned him fans around the country.

The Venda- born musician, whose real name is Vhudihawe Mamphwe, surprised fans in April with the release of his 13-track debut album named after his hit song My Yoki Yoki.

On Monday, he released a single entitled Uthando and featuring Idols Season 11 winner Karabo Mogane.

The 21-year-old said the album is a love story, which typically carries love’s mixed emotions, but as a love story, all is beautiful at the end to help restore love in human hearts.

“Uthando is my first single from the album. It is a continuation of a love story from my first single. It’s a pledge of love, a proposal and encouragement to brothers and sisters to love and appreciate one another more every day,” said Mamphwe.

The artist, who is currently in his second year of study for a degree in mechanical engineering, said he never imagined himself in the music space, even though he is a drummer for his church band.

Vhudie credited his schoolmates for being a positive push and helping him discover his melodic voice.

“My music has changed my life in a positive way and that goes to my family, who have shown to be proud of me. It has gained us recognition and respect even in places we never imagined reaching and for that we are grateful, especially to my supporters,” he said.

Other unsuccessful Idols SA hopefuls who are making a name for themselves in the music industry:

• Nosipho Silinda She signed with Gallo Record Company and has by far released the most-loved song called Thembalami, among three more songs that have helped this musician soar in the music space.
• Snenhlanhla Msomi She almost made it as the Idols SA winner, but less votes did not stop her from making her mark in the music industry. Msomi released Izulu last year.
• The Qwabe Twins The pair may have had a dramatic exit from the show, which was thought to be the end of their career, however, it was also the beginning of a new life as award-winning artist DJ Tira helped them release their own music and gain recognition.
