EFF leader Julius Malema has read the riot act to 60% of the party’s public representatives who failed to mobilise funding for the hiring of a bus each to ferry supporters to the FNB Stadium on July 29.
In January, the red berets issued an instruction to all its 3 258 public representatives to each ensure that they get a bus that will transport their constituency to the EFF birthday bash taking place in three weeks’ time.
But Malema, addressing the media in Soweto on Thursday about the state of readiness for the anniversary rally, revealed that a mere 40% of the party’s public officials had managed to do what was asked of them by the June 30 deadline.
The rest, about 1 934, had failed dismally and there would be consequences, charged Malema.
The first consequence for those that failed to do what was expected of them, he said, would be their banning from attending the celebrations on July 29.
But their pain will not end there as the party would tighten the screws post the event, which may include removal from positions.
“The 31st of January 2023, the EFF gave an instruction to all its public representatives from councillors, members of provincial legislatures [MPL], and members of parliament [MP] to arrange transport for their constituencies to attend the 10th anniversary rally of the EFF at the FNB Stadium,” said Malema.
“This directive was given to ensure that public representatives bring those they claim to represent to the celebration and to ensure all people of South Africa are part of this historic occasion.
“We commend all those who have complied with the organisational directive without fail. All those who failed to comply with this directive, including those who are members of the central command team and war council of the EFF, are effectively prohibited from attending the 10th anniversary rally of the EFF at FNB Stadium.”
The party is also planning to name and shame its public representatives who fell short of carrying out the instruction. This is set to happen no later than July 11 once the auditing of who made the cut has been done.
“Action will be taken against them immediately after the rally regardless of which position they hold in public and in the EFF.”
Malema said the same system will be employed by EFF public representatives who are called upon to sell tables for the EFF gala dinner before the rally.
Failure to comply will lead to MPLs and MPs seeing their names in public and running the risk of losing those positions.
