The ANC in the Peter Mokaba (PM) region has agreed to halt its conference until all disputes have been resolved.
This is after disgruntled members sent a lawyer’s letter to the party urging that it does not go ahead with the event unless all the complaints have been settled by the dispute resolution committee or face legal action.
Lawyer’s letter
“It is our instruction that the regional conference is still on hold. And as such, our client still awaits the National Dispute Resolution Committee’s report to convene the conference,” according to Buthane Rasemane Attorneys on behalf of the region.
On Sunday, lawyers representing branch members from the Peter Mokaba region requested complaints arising from Molemole, Polokwane and Blouberg subregions be dealt with accordingly.
“Our clients have been advised today, around 15:00, that the conference of the ANC PM will convene and conclude its business this evening, if not in the early hours of tomorrow, 19 May 2025. It is our clients’ view that the conference cannot proceed whilst those disputes remain unresolved.
“This is in line with the guidelines published by the African National Congress to all its structures. And it must be adhered to without any compromise,” according to the letter from Mamabala Attorneys.
Allegations of misconduct
The conference has been marred by alleged misconduct relating to branch nominations and bogus delegates. ANC Peter Mokaba Regional Task Team spokesperson Adolf Rapetswa has openly spoken about the “harvesting” of disputes. And this has led to the conference being postponed.
Teffo is facing incumbent John Mpe, who is the frontrunner in the leadership race. Mpe is seen as a threat to Ramathuba’s campaign at provincial level. This as he also intends on vying for the position.
Mpe’s lobbyists claim that he already has the support of the Sekhukhune region and the Norman Mashabane region. This is where his ally Pule Shayi has been re-elected for a third term as regional chair. Shayi is expected to contest the position of deputy chair of the province on Mpe’s slate.
However, ANC Limpopo spokesperson Jimmy Machaka disputed that there are factional battles.
