The initiator of claims about President Cyril Ramaphosa’s alleged covert operation against his predecessor is a known ANC hate-monger, says the ANC.
This after media reports at the weekend suggested that Ramaphosa ran a special operation against former president Jacob Zuma and former ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule to counter allegations of electoral sabotage.
The allegations are contained in a disclosure document submitted to parliament by a former ANC researcher Winston Erasmus.
In a report that Sunday World has seen, Erasmus alleges that the president colluded with ANC bigwigs including Zizi Kodwa, Qubudile Dyantyi and Fikile Mbalula.
Erasmus said Ramaphosa’s Special Operations team succeeded in neutralising Zuma and Magashule’s alleged threats.
However, ANC spokesperson Mahlengu Bhengu-Motsiri refuted the claims, describing them as “malicious”.
Bhengu-Motsiri said the party will not entertain such allegations as the instigator is, according to her, someone with a particular interest in demoralising the ANC and its leadership.
“Unsurprisingly, the instigator behind these fallacies has been previously reported to be engaged in delusional assertions directed at undermining the ANC and its leadership,” said Bhengu-Motsiri.
“As has happened previously, these efforts will fail once more. In any case, the ANC has no such capability nor an appetite for waging covert operations against any individual or interest group.”
She reiterated that the party’s principal mandate is renewing its structures and winning back voters’ hearts.
“Our singular focus is twofold, renewing the organisation and winning back the hearts and minds of our people.
“We will do so by communicating our unambiguous message about the 30 years of democracy and the role of the ANC in leading transformation,” she said.
