DA suspends Nqaba Bhanga for racial allegations against Zille

The DA in the Eastern Cape has suspended Nqaba Bhanga from all political activities of the party.

The party announced on Tuesday evening that the decision was taken unanimously by its Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) in response to Bhanga’s recent racial allegations against Federal Council Chairperson Helen Zille.

In a social media post at the weekend, Bhanga accused Zille of being the “most racist person” and claimed that she possessed “a file on all black people”.

He further alleged that Zille was involved in a conspiracy against him, suggesting her presence in Gqeberha on a specific Friday night. However, the DA promptly refuted these claims, confirming that Zille was not in the Eastern Cape during the mentioned period.

Bhanga’s Facebook post read: “Helen Zille is the most racist person. She got a file on all black people. Yesterday, I learnt how she got information to try to destroy the ANC. I’m hurt to know that you were working with the ANC against me.”

The DA said after the Facebook post, a notice of intention to suspend Bhanga was delivered to him on Monday, by the sheriff of the court and via email.

He was afforded an opportunity to present his arguments, but the PEC ultimately found them to be without merit, leading to his official suspension.

“After considering all the arguments made by Bhanga, the PEC found his arguments to be without merit and made his suspension official.

“The party’s Federal Legal Commission (FLC) is now investigating Bhanga’s conduct as well as his allegations and the matter is out of the hands of the DA in the Eastern Cape.

“The DA remains deeply disappointed by Bhanga’s conduct which is contrary to the party’s constitution and his previous commitment to the party and to non-racialism,” the DA said.
