Former uMkhonto weSizwe (MK Party) secretary-general Floyd Shivambu has expressed no confidence in the MK Party, the African National Congress, and the Economic Freedom Fighters.
Shivambu said this at a briefing where he announced the leadership and structure of the Mayibuye Consultation Process, which is meant to find out what challenges are faced by the communities, and if there is a possible need for a new political party.
National convenor
He is serving as the entity’s national convenor.
“The reason why we say we must consult is because we think that the organisations that are supposed to be the fighting instruments on behalf of the masses of our people are not adequate enough to fight the battles ahead.
“We don’t have confidence in the ANC, we don’t have confidence in the MK. We don’t have confidence in the EFF. And those are the three biggest Black people parties,” said Shivambu.
Despite an attempt to form a political party while still within the MK Party, Shivambu highlighted that factionalism tendencies should be left behind for an individual to commit to Mayibuye.
He warned that if an individual had adopted these tendencies while still at their respective parties, they should be immediately dropped.
Local government elections
Shivambu said in a case that South Africans, from their consultation process, mandate that they would want another political party, then Mayibuye would contest the 2026 local government elections.
He emphasised that he was not new in the world of starting a political party. Certainly not new to getting it moving within a short space of time. Shivambu claimed that there is still enough time to contest the municipal elections. He argued that he once did it with the EFF.
“The overall conversation of the leadership of the Mayibuye Consultation Process is not only about MKP problems. A substantial number comes from former members and leaders of MKP. And it’s because of the correct observation that in its current configuration and direction, the majority of members of the MKP are not in the manner in which the organisation is run,” said Shivambu.
He said many people had trusted the MKP Party to bring about the change that the ANC failed to deliver. But he emphasised that, as it is, it is not the right movement to fight against the challenges facing South Africans.
Apology to Nhlamulo Ndhlela
He further issued an apology to the MKP Party spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela. He had earlier made drug and alcohol abuse allegations against Ndhlela.
Shivambu made these slanderous claims in an interview with TV news channel eNCA. The utterances were made not long after he was removed from his position over a week ago.
Ndhlela responded to the comments by contacting Ndou Incorporated Attorneys to file a lawsuit. In it he demanded a public apology, retraction, and clarification with eNCA.
He said the newly appointed Mayibuye Consultation Process Team had also advised him to retract the statements.
He also warned against the use of drugs and alcohol.
“Drugs will never build you with anything, you will make a lot of mistakes. But we really, unconditionally retract those statements made there. Under the guidance of the collective of leadership,” said Shivambu.
