New kid on the block, uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Party, alleges it has unearthed an elaborate plot implicating some of its -senior members to poison former president Jacob Zuma, the face of the party’s May 29 election campaign.
The bombshell was dropped in the party’s “internal intelligence report,” which was sent to the organisation’s interim leadership recently.
The nascent party’s interim leadership took the report so seriously that it used some of its contents to expel its founder, Jabulani Khumalo, and four other members.
The plot to poison Zuma and delete him from South Africa’s political landscape was leaked to us after MK Party spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela, revealed in a television interview that Khumalo and the four members were booted out of the fledgling party, which is ruffling feathers on the political scene, after receiving an intelligence report with damaging information about them.
However, despite pressure from news hounds to reveal the report’s contents, Ndhlela declined to do so.
When asked how the assassination was planned to be executed, a high-ranking MK Party insider said their members, working in cahoots with senior members of the ANC are looking to find out who could get the closest to Zuma.
“The poison is in KwaZulu-Natal as we speak.”
Another MK Party leader said that due to the sensitivity of the matter and not to compromise Zuma’s security, “we can confirm that the poison was detected in the former president’s food a few weeks ago in one of the hotels in Durban”.
Zuma received an alert from intelligence operatives in one of SA’s neighbouring countries, after which he procured the services of a private toxicology company to accompany him to some of the MK events, according to the person.
“The alert was also confirmed by a source of the State Security Agency from the head of missions for that country.”
The person continued: “The private investigation into the poisoning threat is at an advanced stage, but the preliminary findings point to well-known politicians that are trying to eliminate Zuma.
“The poison’s origin is unknown at this stage, but it came from Europe via Mozambique to Durban.”
The leader stated that Zuma is well aware of plans to deal with him.
Sunday World has heard that Zuma’s security had been deliberately compromised since he announced that he would not vote for the ANC.
The source said the state reduced his security budget, gave him old cars and assigned him inexperienced security personnel.
Zuma had instructed his security team to raise these issues with the head of the Presidential Protection Unit.
Another insider alleged that a senior ANC -leader, previously accused of trying to feed Zuma poisoned liver but failed, was mentioned as one of the people who could execute the assassination.
This is not the first alleged plot to assassinate Zuma by poison. The State Security Agency detained Zuma’s former wife, Nompumelelo Ntuli, in 2014 after accusing her of poisoning him. However, in 2019, the National Prosecuting Authority declined to prosecute the case due to insufficient evidence.
The MK party’s intelligence report is said to have also revealed the rationale behind Khumalo’s expulsion. The insider said the report alleged that Khumalo met with a wealthy South African businessman, known to Sunday World, who discussed with him the plot to topple Zuma.
“The party’s top leaders have an intelligence report that confirms Khumalo’s travels and the businessman he met. Two phone calls were made to a senior ANC leader who promised Khumalo a senior position in -government after the elections if he could succeed in toppling
Zuma as MK Party leader.”
The insider said the report also claims that a senior ANC leader was funding Khumalo’s lifestyle.
“Khumalo has four new vehicles worth millions bought by a senior ANC leader (known to Sunday World) and six -bodyguards. “Khumalo failed to explain who bought him these cars and paid for his bodyguards.”
“He wants to know who leaked the information to you, as he was promised that the report or the information in it would never be made public,” one of Khumalo’s acquaintances said.
“We are aware that there is an intend to poison our president so he doesn’t make it to the election.
“I can confirm without any contradiction that there is a serious threat on his life, poisoning him is one of the options they are trying to exploit,” Ndhlela said yesterday.
