Mmusi Maimane to represent BOSA in the National Assembly

The three members of the Build One South Africa (BOSA) delegation to the National Assembly and Gauteng legislature have been announced, including two women.

This comes after BOSA won three seats — two in the National Assembly and one in the Gauteng legislature.

According to the Independent Electoral Commission, BOSA received about 195 000 votes in the 2024 national and provincial elections, after millions of South Africans cast their ballots on Wednesday last week.

The acting spokesperson of BOSA, Roger Solomons, said that party founder Mmusi Maimane, Nobuntu Hlazo-Webster, and Ayanda Allie will represent the party.

Diverse set of talents

“We can confirm that BOSA has won three seats — two in the National Assembly and one in the Gauteng Legislature,” said Solomons.

“This is a respectable outcome considering we had a fraction of the funding others received, and we unearthed new leaders from communities instead of poaching career politicians like many parties did.”

Maimane and Hlazo-Webster will represent the party in the National Assembly, while Allie will take her seat in the Gauteng legislature.

Solomons said the three representatives are all under the age of 45 and have a diverse set of talents and expertise in a variety of areas.

“For BOSA, this is only the start. What remains undeniable is the desperate need for a centrist platform to hold the line against division, be it racial, ethnic, or linguistic.

“For the first time in our democracy, some form of coalition government is required at the national level,” he said.

Allie, a former spokesman for the Transport Department under the ANC government, switched sides to BOSA.

Honoured to be led by Maimane

She stated that she was fortunate and honoured to be “led by you, Maimane, and Hlazo-Webster”.

“Thank you for seeing in me what I did not see in myself and creating an enabling environment for me to find my voice,” said Allie.

“I still have a lot of learning to do, but with your support and that of South Africa, I will grow.”

She thanked the voters and granted them permission to hold her accountable.

Allie said: “Over 1 700 of you did just that. I am eternally grateful to you; I am because you are.

“As we journey together to the Gauteng legislature, may you continue to give input, hold me to account, and help me serve you.”
