Moseki the nomad finds a home in MK Party, for now

The former MMC of community safety in the City of Ekurhuleni, Letlhogonolo ‘Tlhogi’ Moseki, has become a political nomad who has been with four political parties in less than 18 months.

Moseki’s latest move shocked many when his name appeared on number 18 of the uMkhonto we Sizwe Party list of candidates sent to the IEC from Gauteng.

Moseki was a top leader and ActionSA’s mayoral candidate for Ekurhuleni in the last local government elections.

However, when the former Midvaal mayor Bongani Baloyi quit the DA and formed Xiluva, Moseki jumped ship and hitched his fortunes with the new party.

He became the chairperson of Xiluva but was again on the road to join the former Tshwane MMC of human settlements Abel Tau, who had also formed his own political party, The Transformation Alliance (TTA).

Moseki became chairperson of TTA, however, his stay in the party was short-lived, and he has now re-emerged at MK Party. He split from TTA after he reportedly crashed Tau’s car last year.

Insiders told Sunday World that Moseki crashed a Haval SUV that Tau had lent him to run errands and do party work in Bedfordview, Ekurhuleni, last December.

Allegations are that Moseki was intoxicated when he crashed the car into a wall.

“When Moseki drove Tau’s car into the wall, he was drunk. The police even came to the scene of the accident last December. When Tau heard of the incident, he was very angry that his own chairperson was driving his car while intoxicated.

“He (Moseki) told Tau that he would fix the car, but up until now, the car is still not fixed,” said an insider who is close to both politicians.

Another source stated that Moseki realised that he was failing to fix the car, and decided to leave TTA to join MK Party.

“That car is still at his house, damaged. He doesn’t have money to fix it because he doesn’t have an income. He could not fix Tau’s car, and this left him with no choice but to leave the TTA. He came up with the story that the TTA was not aligned with his political ambitions and left,” said a source.

It is understood that Moseki also got frustrated when he reali-sed that there was no income for him to sustain his lifestyle as chairperson of TTA, and he told Tau that he wanted to be released from the party.

Tau confirmed to Sunday World that Moseki had left his party and that he had crashed his vehicle.

“Moseki left TTA in January, as he cited that he needed to pursue other things.

“I can confirm that I lent him a vehicle, and he was involved in an accident driving it.

“We talked about the plan for fixing the car. The car is still at his house, and he promised to fix it. I will appreciate it if he keeps this promise to get the car fixed. There is no bad blood between us,” said Tau.

In September last year, Moseki also had a fallout with Baloyi over how Xiluva should be run.

“You see, now he is with the MK Party, he is there to push his own interests. If he doesn’t get what he wants after the elections, he is going to jump ship.

“The guy is concerned about his stomach, not political discourse. He is hungry, and remember when he was the MMC, he had everything, but now he is living from hand to mouth,” said a source.

Moseki said he left the TTA because he was undermined.

“I would have been a national chairperson, but I had a situation where people were purely undermining me in front of Tau, especially his wife, Nkele Molapo. I sensed that Nkele was a problem.”

He denied that he was drunk when he crashed the car, saying the vehicle was tempered with before the accident.

“That car was tempered with, hence I was involved in an accident. When I went to the meetings, the steering wheel was not working. I didn’t leave the party due to the accident,” he said, adding that he would repair the car. Molapo was not available for comment.
