President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Julius Maada Bio on his successful re-election as President of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
Bio victoried the presidential election held in June. In a statement issued by the Presidency on Tuesday, Ramaphosa commended the people of Sierra Leone for conducting peaceful and successful elections. He acknowledged the dedication and efforts of the Electoral Commission for their role in ensuring a transparent electoral process.
President Ramaphosa assured President Bio of his commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation between South Africa and Sierra Leone, aiming to deepen trade and investment and foster closer people-to-people relations.
“President Ramaphosa assures President Bio of his commitment to continue enhancing and strengthen bilateral cooperation between South Africa and Sierra Leone from which deepened trade and investment, people to people relations will be rooted,” reads the statement.
The South African President viewed the Sierra Leone elections as a significant step in consolidating democracy not only in the country but also across the entire continent. This consolidation aligns with the aspirations of Africa’s Agenda 2063, which aims to enhance the quality of governance, uphold human rights, and promote the rule of law.
“President Ramaphosa looks forward to engagements with President Bio within the context of the bilateral cooperation, key regional, continental and global issues guided by the continent’s Agenda 2063,” the presidency said.
