Top political journalist Tshidi Madia passes on

Eyewitness News (EWN) Politics Associate Editor and journalist Tshidi Madia has passed on. The news was announced by her family and employer, Primedia, on Wednesday afternoon.
Madia died on Wednesday morning, according to EWN. Big bosses at Primedia lauded Madia as a prolific political journalist who contributed immensely to shaping the political public discourse in the country.
The family said Madia’s patriotism and loyalty to South Africa drove her into journalism to tell the country’s stories.

Family confirms death

“The Madia family announces, with deep sadness, the passing of their beloved daughter and sister, Tshidi Madia,” reads a statement issued by family spokesperson Mahlatse Mahlase.
“Tshidi passed away this morning after a short illness and hospitalisation. A respected journalist, she loved South Africa deeply and devoted her career to telling its stories.”
EWN Editor-in-Chief Nisa Allie praised Madia as one of a special kind. A pioneer in the field and a great loss to the industry.
“Tshidi was the jewel in EWN’s crown. She was a powerhouse. She was brave. And she was the consummate professional, who worked tirelessly in pursuit of the truth. She led by example, mentoring and training many young political journalists,” said Allie.

Humility and professionalism

“She formed a formidable politics team, which she was so proud of. And she delivered one exclusive after the next, with absolute humility and professionalism.
“She constantly raised the bar for herself, juggling reporting and her editor responsibilities daily. Laughter and robust debate would always surround Tshidi,” Allie went on.
“Outside of her public persona, Tshidi was fiercely loyal to her family and friends. Her no-holds-barred approach seeped into every aspect of her life. She worked hard and loved even harder.
“The sun shines differently without you today, Matshidiso. Our thoughts, prayers and support are with Tshidi’s father, her siblings, her nephews and nieces, aunts and uncles, cousins and broader family.”
