Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema believes that the government of national unity (GNU) will collapse within a year or two.
Malema was speaking at the Progressive Caucus public update at Good Hope Chambers at Parliament in Cape Town on Thursday.
This is ahead of the opening of parliament for the seventh administration in the evening.
Malema said he was confident that the ANC would dethrone President Cyril Ramaphosa. And this will force the DA to opt out of the GNU.
ANC conference expected to remove Ramaphosa
“Remember that the DA said they were prepared to work with the ANC of Cyril Ramaphosa. So the ANC conference is going to remove Ramaphosa, whether he likes it or not.
“If they (GNU) survive a year, after the ANC conference they will not succeed,” said Malema.
The red berets leader said it was for this reason that they will support the Gauteng government. This will show that they never needed the DA in the first place. And that they could have opted to join forces with parties that are for black liberation.
Malema said it was disappointing that the UDM, PAC, and Al-Jama Ah left the Progressive Caucus, labelling them cowards.
He said the three parties were not brave enough to announce that they will be leaving for the GNU. They boldly stood against the GNU under the Progressive Alliance.
“When they want to come back, that discussion will be held with them at that moment. But for now, we are extremely disappointed at their actions. Where they put preference of blue lights over the lives of their people,” said Malema.
MK Party, National Coloured Congress join Progressive Caucus
The Progressive Caucus has since welcomed uMkhonto weSizwe (MK Party). It also welcomed the National Coloured Congress.
John Hlophe, MK Party parliamentary leader, said they mainly focused on fighting socio-economic oppression.
“We pledge to remain faithful to the true aspirations of the oppressed. This on transformation of colonial patterns of ownership, achieving equality, justice and total economic freedom,” said Hlophe.
“Accordingly, we shall fight for expropriation of land without compensation for equitable redistribution. We shall fight for nationalisation of the commanding highs of the economy. In particular the banks and the mines.”
