Zuma picks Tony Yengeni to represent him at ANC hearing

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) leader Jacob Zuma has chosen ANC outcast Tony Yengeni to represent him at his disciplinary hearing on Wednesday.

The hearing was set to take place in May, before the general elections. However, it was postponed due to security reasons.

Nhlamulo Ndhlela, MK Party spokesperson, gave details on the meeting. He said in a statement that Zuma had requested that the meeting be at a physical venue. This was agreed upon by the two parties.

At this physical meeting, the former ANC NEC member, Yengeni, would appear on behalf of Zuma.

“In this regard, and in line with these provisions, president Zuma will be represented by a long-standing struggle veteran. Former ANC NEC member and ex-commander of uMkhonto weSizwe, Comrade Tony Yengeni,” said Ndhlela.

Yengeni is ‘well placed as a seasoned commander’

“President Zuma believes that commander Tony Yengeni is well placed as a seasoned commander of uMkhonto weSizwe to represent him in the kangaroo court convened against him by the sellout ANC of Ramaphosa, (DA leader John) Steenhuisen, and Groenewald,” said Ndhlela.

It is believed that Zuma is guilty of contravening Rule 25.17.13 of the ANC constitution. The rule indicates that ANC members cannot be involved with other political parties.

Zuma, the former ANC and country president, formed and campaigned for the MK Party for the elections. He further called for the dislodging of the ANC as the ruling party.

The MK Party now stands as the official opposition and third-most-voted party for the national election.

Ndhlela said the ANC had not responded to their request for a physical meeting, though they had initiated it before.

‘Kangaroo court’

“We should further reflect on the fact that the same DC representative had previously confirmed President Zuma’s attendance at Luthuli House for the kangaroo court to be attended in person,” said Ndhlela.

“But suddenly decided at a whim to postpone the in-person hearing amid a pre-election climate. Because of so-called fictious security fears expressed by the ANC of Ramaphosa to be held at the venue decided by them,” he added.
