Afro-pop king and EFF MP Ringo Madlingozi has dropped the microphone on his marriage to his wife Nomfundo Nyathi after the couple spent 10 years singing from a different hymn sheet.
Sunday World can exclusively reveal that Madlingozi’s lawyers informed Nyathi a fortnight ago that he would file for divorce after the two failed to rekindle their love and repair their faltering union.
The dissolution of their marriage will happen just a year before Madlingozi reaches his retirement age and five years before Nyathi reaches her autumn of life. Madlingozi, who was born in 1964, is 59 years old, while Nyathi is 55.
The disintegration of their marriage will be a blow to Madlingozi and Nyathi’s loved ones as they had prayed and hoped the two would resolve their differences and age together as husband and wife.
News that Madlingozi and Nyathi are heading for divorce was revealed by the former lovebirds’ associates, who were shattered by the recording superstar’s decision to file for divorce.
“The hammer has fallen, it’s over. We are gutted. But what can we do? It is what it is,” said the associate, who did not want to be named for fear of comprising the relationship with the former couple.
The associate also said they had been praying for Madlingozi and Nyathi to resolve their differences and get back together after their separation about a decade ago.
After their split, Nyathi went to live in Midrand, while Madlingozi lived in Buccleuh, north of Joburg.
Despite their split, they continued to speak in a bid to resolve their problems but without success.
The associate said Mandlingozi told them he decided to file for divorce because they had been unable to resolve their differences.
The associate further said the Sondela hit maker told them that Nyathi no longer shared the same ambitions and dreams with him, and this resulted in their loss of affection for each other.
Another associate, who also spoke anonymously, confirmed the couple had already signed a settlement agreement, which they will make a court order.
“It’s a slam dunk, but who knows maybe they could both change their minds before the matter goes to court,” the associate said.

“I have seen it. It doesn’t say much, except to say that they will both keep their assets and pension funds,” said the associate.
In April 2008, Sunday World reported that Nyathi moved out of their love nest in a huff after complaining of the artist’s cavalier association with women and his failure to hit the sack at home.
Nyathi declined to comment.
