A defiant Makhadzi has failed to pay producer and event organiser Rabs Vhafuwi R16 000 after she failed to perform at a musical event in 2022.
Makhadzi, who made headlines a few months ago for lambasting her former record label Open Mic for owing her money, has done to others as it was done to her, refusing to pay Vhafuwi’s R20 000 booking fee in full.
Vhafuwi, born Rabelani Madula, told Sunday World that even after publicly appealing to the songbird a month ago, Makhadzi has not made contact or any effort to pay back the money.
He said he has written off the debt, and Makhadzi, born Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, can keep the money. “I don’t have the energy. I have decided to just move away from that,” he said.
Vhafuwi explained that in August 2022, he booked Makhadzi to perform at his Sunday Service events at Cohibar in Melrose Arch.
She allegedly failed to arrive at the gig on the agreed time and apologised to the crowd, stating that she will come back the following weekend, but failed to keep her promise.
After she allegedly failed to show up, Vhafuwi requested his money back, but only received it in trenches including a R2 000 e-wallet from the singer.
When contacted for comment, Makhadzi referred Sunday World to her manager, whom she identified as Lucky. Lucky did not answer his phone.
Following an expose by Vhafuwi on Twitter in June, Makhadzi took to her Instagram to dispute the allegations, stating that she was doing him a favour.
“I came to your show and you decided to postpone. Ndo swika [I arrived], I declined other shows because of your show, are you gonna give me the money I lost?” she asked.
“You even gave me a mic to announce that you are postponing the show but still played two songs and forced me to perform. Is that performance for free? I am not your toy, I am not going to give you the money back.”
