Moja Love has parted ways with popular Sizok’thola presenter Xolani Khumalo, the TV channel said in a statement on Friday.
Reads the statement: “Members of the public and the media are hereby notified that Moja Love TV Channels has terminated its relationship with Mr Xolani Khumalo, a presenter in one of the company’s leading shows, Sizok’thola.
Charged with murder
Khumalo is embroiled in a criminal case at the Palm Ridge magistrate’s court where he faces a charge of murder.
In July, the presenter was placed at the centre of the death of an alleged drug dealer, Robert “Kicks” Varrie, who died shortly after a visit from Khumalo and his television crew while filming an episode of Sizok’thola.
In a statement released by the Xolani Khumalo Foundation in September, the Moja Love presenter was advised to hand himself over to police.
“The South African Police Service has requested that Xolani Khumalo hand himself over in connection with an incident that occurred at one of the last drug busts,” said the foundation.
“Xolani Khumalo and the team operated according to the strictest standards of professionalism when engaged in securing accountability from those that sell drugs and choose to harm communities.”
Death threats
In May, Sunday World reported that Khumalo was living in fear of being assassinated after receiving death threats from faceless drug dealers.
Sunday World exclusively revealed that Khumalo and the channel’s CEO, Aubrey Tau, had been receiving death threats on their cellphones from unknown people who threatened to kill them if they did not can the show.
Moja Love spokesperson Nonzwakazi Cekete said on Friday that the channel will not be commenting on any matters relating to Khumalo at this stage, and wished Khumalo the best in his future endeavors.
Khumalo is out on R20 000 bail and is due back in court on November 21 pending a decision by the director of public prosecutions on whether the matter should be transferred to the high court for trial.
