Police have confiscated a hijacked BMW 330i believed to have been driven by reality TV star and singer Londiwe Zulu, popularly known as Londie London.
The car, which is similar to the one the boastful Zulu flaunted on social media in March last year, was allegedly hijacked in KwaZulu-Natal and handed over to her by her ex-boyfriend, Sphamandla Mabonga.
Zulu bragged to her followers that Mabonga had bought her a brand new BMW 330i, shortly after telling those who cared to listen that her other ex-fiancé had taken back the car he had given her.
Little did she know the luxury vehicle would later be impounded by the police on suspicion that it was hijacked in KZN.
News that the cops impounded the vehicle was revealed by a source close to the police, who are investigating Mabonga after a shooting that occurred at Tempo Luxury Restaurant in Rivonia, Sandton, last month.
According to a source who cannot be named for fear of victimisation, police discovered that the car was not registered in Zulu or Mabonga’s names.
Upon conducting further investigations, they discovered the vehicle was hijacked and belonged to a security company in Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal.
“The company opened a case in KwaZulu-Natal for the hijacked car,” said the source.
The informant also said police confiscated several firearms from Mabonga to establish whether they were licensed.
“They are also still looking for a red Bentley and a BMW i8.”
The mole also said eight bodyguards who were with Mabonga on the night of the shooting are still at large, and police are on their trail. “The bodyguards are wanted for the same charges that Mabonga faces, which are two counts of attempted murder, one count of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of an unlicensed firearm, pointing of a firearm, and firing a firearm in a municipal area,” said the deep throat.
Mabonga was due to appear in the Randburg magistrates’s court on Monday, but was unable to do so as he was still in hospital under police guard.
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said Mabonga, who is recovering at a Johannesburg public hospital, is expected to appear in court on Monday, February 5.
A mole also revealed staff who were working the night shift when the shooting happened were traumatized and are receiving counselling.
Since the night of the shooting on January 19, 2024, the establishment has now beefed up its security to ensure the safety of customers.
Zulu declined to comment and said she broke up with Mabonga a long time ago.
