Avid chef and businesswoman Siba Mtongana has bagged an award at the Glamour Women Awards held in Cape Town at the weekend.
Mtongana, who shared her joy on her Instagram account, won the Game Changing Entrepreneur award.
“Those in business, especially hospitality, will understand how tough this environment can be with all the responsibilities and accountabilities one has, very fickle and unpredictable industry at times, including providing and protecting peoples livelihoods in the most difficult times with the pandemic,” she wrote.
“We took a huge financial risk and opened a restaurant during the peak of the pandemic, and it was considered crazy by many, understandably so, as the hospitality and tourism industry was hugely affected by Covid-19 lockdowns.
“But [I] followed my inner gut feeling that it was time … ‘just do it’ … and here we are standing strong and celebrating one year of operations. Thank you Glamour for this incredible honour. Despite it all, keep breaking the barriers, keep rising. Mama, I made it. I know you are proud watching from above.”
Former Miss SA Shudufhadzo Musida took home an award in the mental health category while Thuso Mbedu scooped the Game Ghanging Actress award. Radio personality Anele Mdoda walked away with the top gong, the Icon Award.
