Johannesburg – As the African Cup of Nations (Afcon) has now entered another competitive round of the quarter-finals, eight teams will battle to find their space in the semi-finals of the tournament.
The Afcon 2021 quarter-final ties are confirmed, following the completion of the last 16 matches, where the football fraternity was left in shock following early exit of ‘African giants teams, most particularly, the Black Stars of Ghana.
Ghana was sent packing after they failed to make their way into the last 16 of the tournament.
While everyone was stunned by disqualification of Ghana, Africans were also left in shock consternation feeling after ‘Africa giants’ Ivory Coast and Nigeria, were booted out of the tournament in the round of last 16.
The hosts Cameroon, and the Pharaohs, Egypt hold on to the fort as they were nearly knocked out of the tournament during their last 16.
The Pharaohs won by penalties as they knocked out their arch-rivals, Ivory Coast by 5-4 penalty shoot-out victory, which secured the Reds a place at the quarter-finals where they will tomorrow face Morocco.
The Indomitable Lions qualified to the next round of the tournament following their massive victory against the Comoros, where they bulldozed the Coelacanths with a clinical 2-1 win.
