After thrashing Tanzania 3-0 in their own backyard in the first leg, putting themselves in the driving seat of the third-round of the Olympic qualifiers, Banyana Banyana are now edging closer to booking their ticket to the 2024 Olympics to be held in France in July.
All thanks to well-worked goals from the Mexican-based trio Jermaine Seoposenwe, Thembi Kgatlana and Hilda Magaia.
Despite going into the second leg with a comfortable scoreline, Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis said it will be crucial for her side to avoid being complacent and try to put the game to bed by getting the first goal.
“People will think we have already won the tie but the next goal in the match could change things and we have to be the ones scoring and then we will worry about our next opponent.”
The winner of the tie will go on to face either Cameroon or Nigeria, who will also be battling it out tomorrow evening.
Having made their last appearance at the summer games in Brazil in 2016, Ellis and her African champions will leave no stone unturned in returning to the Olympic stage once again after missing out four years ago in Tokyo, Japan. Banyana and Tanzania will meet in the second leg on Tuesday afternoon at the Mbombela Stadium.
