Celebrations and despair mark jampacked sporting weekend

A jampacked sporting weekend could not have concluded any better, as Napoli found themselves on the verge of clinching the Italian Serie A championship.

There was some boxing action as well, which saw Ryan Garcia being knocked out by Gervonta “Tank” Davis.

Napoli on cusp of Scudetto glory

Italian Serie A runaway log leaders Napoli are on the verge of winning their first league title in 33 years, after Giacomo Raspadori’s late winner against struggling Juventus on Sunday night.

Napoli will be crowned champions this coming weekend if they win against Salernitana and second-placed Lazio draws or losses away to Inter Milan at the San Siro on Sunday.

Sekhukhune achieves league double over Chiefs

Sekhukhune United scuppered Kaizer Chiefs’ hopes of climbing up the log after completing a DStv Premiership league double against Amakhosi, edging past the Glamour Boys 1-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.

The victory meant that Babina Noko have now leap-frogged to number six on the log while Amakhosi are still stagnant on number four with four games to go.


Davis knocks out Garcia

Gervonta Davis lived up to his word and knocked out Ryan Garcia with a body blow during their long-awaited catchweight bout at the at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

In what was dubbed a mega fight, as both fighters went into the fight undefeated, the WBA lightweight champion Davis came out victorious and handed the former WBC interim lightweight champion Garcia his first loss.

Downs have one foot in CAF Champions League semis

Mamelodi Sundowns returned to winning ways when they thumped CR Belouizdad 4-1 in the CAF Champions League quarterfinal first leg at the Stade Nelson Mandela on Saturday night.

Masandawana could reach the semi-finals for the first time in three years when they host Belouizdad at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium this Saturday.

Peter Shalulile reaches milestone

Mamelodi Sundowns goal machine Peter Shalulile recorded his 100 career goals when he scored a brace against CR Belouizdad during their CAF Champions League quarterfinal first-leg clash on Saturday.

Shalulile becomes the seventh player to hit the 100 goals mark and joins the likes of Siyabonga Nomvethe, Daniel Mudau and Collins Mbesuma.
