Chiefs and Stellies return to CAF duty with their tails up

For the entire week, staunch football fans have been raving about the return of their favourite clubs in action and now they couldn’t be more excited, as CAF interclub football is in full swing.

Mamelodi Sundowns set the tone on Friday after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Al-Hilal, and Kaizer Chiefs, alongside Stellenbosch FC, will also be returning to continental duty today.

Amakhosi travelled to Zambia to face Zesco United in their crucial Group D tie, with both teams still in search of their first wins two games into the group stages.

The Glamour Boys have lost one, drew the other game, and are third in the group with one point.

Zesco languish at the bottom of Group D, having lost both their games against Egyptian outfits Zamalek and leader Al Masry. The latter will meet later on the day in an Egyptian derby at 9pm in Cairo.

Chiefs will be going into the encounter with their tails up following their positive performance and win over Golden Arrows in the Betway Premiership last Tuesday.

With maximum points at stake, Amakhosi co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef will be expecting their charges to pick up from where they left off and return home with a result that will put them in a better position heading into the return leg this coming
weekend at home.

Stellenbosch, on the other hand, just like Amakhosi, will be heading into the game tonight with some bit of confidence, having won their first game in the new year under the new leadership of veteran coach Gavin Hunt last week against a tough Sekhukhune United side.

Stellies will be welcoming CR Belouizdad of Algeria, who are coached by someone who is very familiar with the South African football scene, Sead Ramovic.

Belouizdad have been struggling to find consistency so far this season and will look to find their groove back at the expense of Hunt and his new-look
Stellenbosch.

Stellies are currently sitting on top of their Group C with four points, while Ramovic’s Belouizdad are third with three points.

AS Otoho of the DR Congo and Tanzanian outfit Singida Black Stars FC will also be contesting today for maximum points this evening at 6pm.

The game between Stellies and Belouizdad will get underway at 9pm in Cape Town.
