It has all come down to the final day of what was yet another pulsating and exhilarating Betway SA20 season, when Pretoria Capitals take on Sunrisers Eastern Cape at the “Field of Dreams”, the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town, this afternoon.
The Sunrisers secured the last vacant final spot with a comprehensive seven-wicket win with more than eight overs to spare in their qualifier play-off over hapless Paarl Royals at the Wanderers Stadium on Friday night.
This will be the fourth consecutive staging for Sunrisers in the SA20 final, having won it in the first two seasons but being beaten finalists last time out.
“This year we’ve got a really balanced team. I think we’ve got all bases covered,” said new Sunrisers skipper Tristan Stubbs on Friday.
“But the way Adi [coach Adrian Birrell] runs the show is very simple. He drills in the basics, and if you do the basics really well in South Africa, you tend to do quite well, and you’re consistent as a team.”
The two-time champions will, though, be facing a hungry Pretoria Capitals side, who have been one of the exciting teams to watch this SA20 season.
Capitals finished second on the table behind the Sunrisers, with the likes of Dewald Brevis and Bryce Parsons proving to be vital in the team reaching the final stage of the competition.
They have already comfortably beaten the Sunrisers in the play-offs and will be confident enough heading into the final that they can do it again, and
ultimately clinch a maiden SA20 title today.
The game is scheduled to get underway at 3:30pm.
Players to watch:
Quinton de Kock (Sunrisers Eastern Cape)
Jonny Bairstow (Sunrisers Eastern Cape)
Dewald Brevis (Pretoria Capitals)
Bryce Parsons (Pretoria Capitals)
Jordan Hermann (Sunrisers Eastern Cape)
