Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has admitted that it is going to be difficult to choose the team for their next official matches after the impressive performance of his new crop of players.
Broos was speaking after Bafana’s sterling performance on Tuesday night that saw them beat the dislocated Mozambique 2-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Limpopo’s capital, Polokwane.
Sinoxolo Kwayiba, who was making his second Bafana Bafana appearance, scored the first goal in the 46th minute.
Man of the Match
This resulted in the Chippa United star being voted Man of the Match. Ashley Cupido, who made his 10th appearance in the senior national team jersey, would seal Bafana’s victory in the 69th minute with a volley.
The victory against Mozambique was part of the two friendly matches as Bafana’s preparations for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers and African Cup of Nations. The first match against Tanzania on June 6 finished goalless at the same venue.
“We scored twice against Mozambique. So yes, everything is positive about the past few days. This is something that will make my job very difficult in the next few months when you see that we have 23 players there in Polokwane.
“You know that there are still 23 players who are with their clubs, still with their clubs or who are at home. So that means we can now choose between 40 players,” he said.
Good motivation for players
“This will be difficult because I have to drop players in September. Players maybe who deserved it, but OK. I have to make choices, but this also means players will be more motivated. Because they know that there are guys behind them who are waiting to take their places.
“This will bring the level higher, certainly, that will bring the level higher.”
Bafana, who are on top of Group C in the FIFA World Cup’s African qualifiers with 13 points, five points clear of second-placed Rwanda (with eight points), will play their last two qualifying matches away to Lesotho before they wrap up their schedule at home against Nigeria.
Those with good memories will remember that the first leg away to Nigeria on June 7 last year ended in a 1-all draw. That was before Bafana could emerge victorious 2-0 against Lesotho at home in Polokwane on March 24.
