Kgothatso Montjane celebrated her 39th birthday in style with a win at the French Open on Friday night.
The wheelchair-bound South African tennis ace and her doubles partner – Japanese Yui Kamiji took the honours again this time.
It is Montjane’s fourth Grand Slam title at Roland Garros.
The duo dished out their best performance to beat the Chinese pairing of Xiaohui Li and Ziying Wang in the women’s doubles final with a 4-6 7-5 (10-7) victory.
Montjane and her partner made their intentions clear from the onset to win their doubles title when they sailed through from the quarterfinals.
But they then battled in the third and final set on Court 7.
Repeat of 2023
This victory saw them reclaim the silverware, which they first won in 2023.
That same year, the duo capped their glorious performance by lifting the US Open title, as well as the Wimbledon crown in 2024.
Montjane was the first South African woman to win at Wimbledon.
She was born with a congenital disorder which affected both her hands and a foot. One leg was amputated at the age of 12.
She started her career as a professional tennis player at 19, and has amassed a number of accolades.
