Mzansi celebrities living it up at LIV Golf razzmatazz

South Africa once again hosted a sporting event for the books this weekend, as the 2026 LIV Golf in Steyn City delivered one of the most memorable golfing and entertainment experiences ever.

The four-day golf tournament teed off on Thursday at the championship golf course in the “city within a city”, with some of the top golfers such as Bryson DeChambeau and a strong South African contingent, including Louis Oosthuizen, Dean Burmester, Charl Schwartzel, and Branden Grace. The event was brimming with some of Mzansi’s well-known personalities and celebrities.

On the entertainment front, DJ Black Coffee was the crowd puller, and he kept the revellers on their feet when he was fondling those mixing buttons on Friday night. The international DJ definitely took the LIV Golf crowd to a whole new level, and what a way to do it on home soil at this historic sporting moment.

Calvin Harris headlined Saturday’s performance and was equally as good as Coffee on the “wheels of steel”.

DeChambeau will probably be heading back to the USA with a sore neck, as he was spotted signing autographs for over 30 minutes on Friday.

Some of the local top celebrities and athletes who graced the occasion were the likes of Maps Maponyane, Proteas captain Temba Bavuma, former Kaizer Chiefs stars Doctor “16 Valve” Khumalo, Stanton Fredericks, sprint sensation Akani Simbine, Bryan Habana, K Naomi and erstwhile Bafana Bafana striker Zakhele Lepasa, who happens to be a golf fanatic just like former Real Madrid star Gareth Bale.

It was the first time witnessing professional golfers playing with some nice dance music buzzing on the course. And to many people’s surprise, all the players produced high-level golf accompanied by jaw-dropping swings and cuts.

Obviously, the biggest highlight of the tournament for many was Burmester’s class act on Friday, when he, out of the green, rocked the new Bafana Bafana away jersey before playing his shot. The overall organisation of the tournament in the last four days was top-notch and world-class. Yes, not everyone might have had a smooth or easy flowing experience, but from where I was sitting, it was a pleasant experience. The festival was so accommodative of everyone, young and old; boys and girls; all races and classes from all parts of the country.
