The Proteas may be going into their third and final T20 international match with a 2-0 lead and the series already in the bag, but they will want to wrap it up in style and complete a whitewash over hapless Pakistan at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley tomorrow evening.
South Africa sealed the series on Friday, when they beat Pakistan by six wickets with four balls left in Benoni.
Captain Laura Wolvaardt steered her charges with a solid 40 runs not out off 29 balls in their chase of 101 to win after Pakistan had posted 100/9 in their 14 overs each after the game was affected by rain.
“Very pleased to get the series win. I think we’re trying to find a way to win games even when there’s a little bit of nerves in the middle, so I’m very pleased we were able to come out on top today [on Friday],” Wolvaardt said after the game.
“I think we’ll be looking to win it 3-0 on Monday. I think it’s been a while since we won a bilateral series consistently, and if we have the opportunity to win it 3-0, then I think that will be the first priority,” she added.
Experienced Proteas seam bowler Ayabonga Kaka was
also instrumental in getting the South Africans over the line when she starred with the ball, grabbing 3/10 in just two overs.
This is a big year for coach Mandla Mashimbyi and his side, as they have the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup ahead of them in June, with the showpiece set to be held between two countries, England and Wales.
The Proteas will be desperate to win their first-ever major title, having come close not once or twice, but three times in recent years.
