Springboks captain Siya Kolisi has withdrawn from the team that will face the Barbarians in the Qatar Airways Cup on Saturday at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town due to a niggle.
Coach Rassie Erasmus has since given Jesse Kriel the responsibility to lead the Springboks for the first time since making his debut in 2015.
Kriel has played 79 Tests for the rugby world champions.
Marco van Staden has been draughted straight into the starting line-up as a replacement for Kolisi and will partner up with Vincent Tshituka and Jean-Luc du Preez in the loose trio, with the rest of the squad remaining as announced by Erasmus on Tuesday.
It is yet to be seen whether Kolisi will be back fit and ready when the Boks first host Italy in back-to-back Tests in Pretoria (July 5) and in Gqeberha a week later, before wrapping up the Castle Lager Incoming Series against Georgia in Nelspruit on July 19.
The game between the Boks and the Barbarians will get underway at 5.10pm.
