URC fans brace themselves for a mouthwatering doubleheader

While football fans will be going bonkers this coming weekend about the Soweto derby, staunch rugby fans, on the other hand, will be equally losing their minds, as they will be bracing themselves for a mouthwatering United Rugby Championship (URC) doubleheader on Saturday.

The Lions will host the Stormers at Ellis Park Stadium at 2:30pm, with the Blue Bulls and Sharks set to collide at 5pm at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

The Lions have been blowing hot and cold this season, as they have struggled to find consistency in their form despite picking up wins here and there.

The Joburg side will be going up against a strong and poised Stormers, who are enjoying a good run of form and are inside the top four in the full table of the URC.

The Stormers also bolstered their already exciting squad that has the likes of Paul de Villiers and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, when they finally landed the signature of 24-year-old hooker Vernon Paulo from the Cheetahs.

“This is a dream come true for me, but this is just the start. I am going to work hard to be at my absolute best for this team and contribute to the cause,” Paulo said upon joining Stormers.

“My father is from Langa, and I have supported this team my whole life, so this is a homecoming of sorts for me.

“I want to show what this means to me by the way I play and hopefully add to the success of the team,” he added.

The late kick-off between the Bulls and the Sharks will be a game with its stakes high, as both teams are also on a mission to make strong inroads to securing a play-off position come the end of the regular season.
