The Proteas will be back in action today in their third T20 Tri-Series and will be looking to return to winning ways when they face Zimbabwe at the back of their defeat to New Zealand last Friday.
South Africa succumbed to a 21-run loss at the Harare Sports Club to a New Zealand side that is coached by a man who knows the Proteas team very well, former white-ball coach Rob Walter.
However, they will have an opportunity to redeem themselves when they meet the Black Caps again on Tuesday. But the Proteas will want to set the tone against their neighbours, Zimbabwe, whom they have already beaten in the Tri-Series. Zimbabwe was also blown away quite emphatically by the Proteas in a two-match Test series last month.
Ahead of the encounter, Proteas batting coach Ashwell Prince said he is confident that they can still win their remaining games and qualify for the series final this week.
“In the next game [against Zimbabwe today], you play what’s in front of you, and we know we have the firepower to win every [remaining] game in this series.”
The current Proteas team is mostly made up of fringe and young players, with the majority of the regulars rested after their World Test Championship win against Australia.
Lungi Ngidi, Corbin Bosch, and Senuran Muthusamy are the only three players from the Test Championship squad who are with the Proteas in Harare.
Ngidi surpassed Dale Steyn for most wickets in T20 International cricket and is in the top five and number three with 65 in only 45 games.
Tabraiz Shamsi leads the pack with 89 wickets, followed by Kagiso Rabada on 71
wickets.
The Proteas and Zimbabwe will take to the crease at 1pm.
