‘My brother is not a thug!’- Phungwayo’s brother speaks out following arrest

Johannesburg – The former Orlando Pirates defender Patrick Phungwayo’s brother Aubrey, has shared his side of the story that his brother is an innocent man.

Phungwayo who headlined news on Thursday was arrested for allegedly being behind a series of crimes, which included car hijackings and house break-ins.

Aubrey, who is the younger brother to the then soccer star, told news channel ENCA that his brother is innocent and that he is not a thug, and has never operated in any of the criminal elements.

He also added that two cars that were seized during an arrest at his home in Lombardy East, belonged to one of his friends and that they were not hijacked.

While sharing his side of the story, Aubrey said that the cars came to Patrick to be repaired, as normally they will be fixed at his place.

“There’s a guy he grew up with who asked to park two cars at Boca’s place as he owns a car panel beating shop,” said Aubrey.

“So what happened, there were lads who were chased by the police, they went there and parked the cars and fled. There were four of them, these boys.

“I think the one who is called David was caught by police around the same area, but Boca was inside his house with his wife and child.

“When the police knocked at his gate, Boca went to investigate, so obviously if cars are in his yard it becomes his responsibility. So that’s how he got arrested, my brother is not a thug,” he said.

Meanwhile, Patrick Phungwayo still remains in police custody after his court appearance on Thursday for alleged house breaking.

Phungwayo appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, and the matter was postponed to Monday for further investigation with a formal bail application set to take place next Thursday.
