It has emerged that Molefi Ntseki asked Kaizer Chiefs to relieve him of his duties because he feared for his and his family’s life as the violent scenes and fans hurling missiles at him had become unbearable.
After last week Saturday’s violent scenes at the FNB Stadium, it was enough for the former Bafana Bafana coach.
It was the third time he was attacked this season and Ntseki went straight to Kaizer Motaung’s office for a serious conversation.
According to a source close to the club, who did not want to be named, Ntseki was not fired but he respectfully asked to be stripped of his duties.
“He then went to a meeting with the club chairman, they had a decent conversation, shook hands and then it was over.
“The coach also felt the club did not do enough to protect him, because Jessica [Motaung] came out to address the matter only after two incidents.”
The first violent incident was during a league match against TS Galaxy, where throngs of fans pelted Ntseki with objects after their 1-0 loss at the Mbombela Stadium in August.
In September, disgruntled Chiefs supporters were at it again, this time at the Peter Mokaba Stadium after another 1-0 defeat to SuperSport United.
The club was fined R200 000 for the spectators’ misconduct.
Under new coach Cavin Johnson, Amakhosi lost 2-1 to Golden Arrows in KZN yesterday.
