Following their One Day International (ODI) whitewash and being easily beaten by 10 wickets in the one-off Test match recently by India, the Proteas Women will be on a mission to clinch the T20 three-match series following their impressive 12 runs win on Friday.
South Africa and India will be in action in the second T20 match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai, India today at 3pm.
The Proteas have been enduring a nightmare in their India-Tour but will be desperate to end their tour on a high and salvage something in the T20, especially with the return of the experienced all-rounder Chloé Tryon, who returns into the fold after experiencing a back injury
After the announcement of the T20 15-player squad last week, Proteas coach Dillon du Preez expressed his excitement to have Tryon back in the team. Du Preez said the series would come in handy as it will allow them to prepare for the T20 World Cup later this year.
“We’re excited with the 15-player squad that has been selected for the T20 series. We also have Chloe back after recovering from an injury. She brings a lot of experience to the team, and we can’t wait to see her back on the field,” Du Preez said
“We have our last three T20 matches against India. This will give us some time to look at one or two options before we go home and start our final preparation for the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh,” he added.
Ahead of the first T20 match yesterday, Tyron said she was delighted to be back playing cricket after a frustrating period on the sidelines.
“It was pretty frustrating [to be on the sidelines] because I think I had a pretty good New Zealand series last year and then having an injury and missing the series back home after that it was a bit disappointing,” Tyron said.
“But I’m feeling really excited [to be back]. I am happy to be here and part of a really good series to get myself 200% ready for the World Cup.”
