Sekhukhune United mid-fielder Sibusiso Vilakazi is taking pleasure in sharing the same locker-room with seasoned midfielder and teammate Kamohelo Mokotjo, with the two stars eager for the three points against Kaizer Chiefs when they clash at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane today.
Babina Noko are enjoying a rich vein of form having won back-to-back league games, while Amakhosi have been blowing hot and cold.
This week, Mokotjo revealed that he in fact did hold talks with Chiefs prior to joining Sekhukhune and was turned off by external factors – which will add more fuel to the much-anticipated encounter.
Meanwhile, Vilakazi recently joined Babina Noko as a free agent from TS Galaxy, following a dramatic fallout with coach Sead Ramovic, that led to his contract being terminated by mutual agreement.
Vila, as he is affectionately known, shed light on how it feels to be playing next to a player of Mokotjo’s calibre at Sekhukhune.
“It feels good [to play alongside Mokotjo]. The level of football understanding, for me, is interesting because you know for sure how he plays, and you want to feed from it,” Vilakazi said.
“He has been able to engage with so many players overseas in so many competitions, so I would be naive not use that opportunity. But of course, having to use the experience that we once played together in the national team, it makes it appealing because we can rely on each other.
“But in all that, we want to help the team win games and to get better and I hope that we find more opportunities to play together and help the team.”
Despite the 33-year-old being a highly decorated player himself, having won five league titles and the CAF Super Cup with Mamelodi Sundowns, he admitted he also did sometimes seek advice from the former Brentford FC star.
“Kamo brings so much quality in the team, so much that if I was younger, I would be wanting to get closer to him,” added Vilakazi.
“I also do get closer to him to find out how can I be better. He has played with players that are able to speak big numbers and played against opponents in the European leagues that put in big numbers.
“If I was a young player, I would be leaning next to him to find out how much I can consume out of him because it is incredible – the career that he had and left home at an early age, so I myself would be intrigued to be next to him.
