Golden Arrows and Marumo Gallants will be crossing swords today at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban for the vacant spot in the final of the Carling Knockout.
The winner between the two will face Orlando Pirates, who booked their place in the final after edging Richards Bay 1-0 in front of a sold-out crowd yesterday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Tshepang Moremi’s solitary goal in the first half steered Pirates’ ship safely over the bay to the knockout final for the first time since 2018, when they were stunned by minnows Baroka FC.
In their illustrious history and after recently claiming the “PSL cup specialists” tag, the Sea Robbers have managed to win the Knockout cup competition once since it was first staged in 1982.
Their single Knockout victory came in 2011 when they beat the now-defunct Bidvest Wits 3-1 in the final.
Now, having already annexed the MTN8 at the beginning of the season, coach Abdeslam Ouaddou and his side will be hoping to break the Carling Knockout curse when they face either Arrows or Gallants next month.
Arrows last won a trophy in 2009 when they walloped the extinct Ajax Cape Town 6-0 and have put themselves in a good position to get some piece of silverware under coach Manqoba Mngqithi.
Gallants will, however, not make it easy for them, as they will be seeking payback after they were hammered 4-0 by Arrows in the Betway Premiership recently.
