Bafana Bafana were held to a rather frustrating goalless draw by Tanzania during their international friendly match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Friday night.
SA coach Hugo Broos gave his fringe players an opportunity to start in the absence of Mamelodi Sundowns star players, who usually make up the core of his squad.
Khulumani Ndamane, Deano Van Rooyen, and Simphiwe Selepe were all handed their official debuts for the senior side by Broos.
As expected, Bafana made a positive start to the game as they created clear-cut chances in front of goal as early as the third minute through Oswin Appollis, but his effort was cleared off the goal line.
It was the same story the entire first half, with the hosts dominating play and threatening the Tanzanian goal but they squandered all their opportunities to break the deadlock.
The second half was relatively the same, with Bafana all over the Taifa Stars. Broos made changes and also gave Sekhukhune United goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner a run after substituting Ricardo Goss.
Tanzania also made several changes to give most of their players some game time, but none of the substitutes from both sides could make an impact strong enough to change the scoreline, and both teams settled for a draw.
Bafana’s next friendly match will be against neighbours Mozambique, at the same venue, the Peter Mokaba Stadium, next Tuesday. The game will get underway at 7:30pm.
