Orlando Pirates (Buccaneers) have been busy in the transfer market and have reinforced their squad with the signing of Melusi Buthelezi who was playing for TS Galaxy, Katlego Otladisa from Marumo Gallants, Siphelo Baloni (Cape Town All Stars) and Patrick Maswanganyi who was on the books of SuperSport United.
Pirates have confirmed that the four players are already with the team and will form part of the preseason preparations. Pirates are beefing up their squad as they will be playing in the demanding and arduous CAF Champions League after finishing number two on the DStv Premiership at the end of last season.
For the coming season, they will also need players who can rise to the occasion in the domestic season after they had a rather improved season where they lifted the MTN8 and the Nedbank Cup. The fans are expecting nothing but an improvement from the previous season’s winnings.
The Buccaneers have also confirmed that they have released dribbling wizard Ntsako Makhubela, Craig Martin, Nkanyiso Zungu, Kopano Thuntsane, and Ndumiso Mabena and wished them the best in their future endeavours. Martin did not feature much for Bucs after his move from Cape Town City that caught Pirates supporters by surprise. Mabena, who returned to Pirates in a much-publicised transfer from Royal AM also struggled with game time under coach Jose Riveiro.
Pirates also recently announced that they reached an amicable decision to part ways with long serving Senior Rehabilitation Specialist, Stephen Plummer.
“After spending eight wonderful years with the club, Stephen will be leaving the Mighty Buccaneers. Stephen has handed in his request to leave the club to return to the Blue Bulls – a team where was working before joining the Club in 2015. Management has given him their blessings and wants to thank Stephen for the years of service. The process is underway for the Buccaneers to fill this vacancy including that of a Sports Scientist,” said the club on their official website.
